Bishop Earl Boyea commissioned the Realign Resources for Mission Committee in 2019 "with the specific task of seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the presbyterate, the parish and school staffs and the faithful men and women of this diocese to determine how best to realign our resources (personnel, property, financial, material), in order to further the mission of forming communities of missionary disciples who go announce the Gospel of the Lord."
"Bishop Boyea’s decision to establish the committee was informed by a range of statistical evidence which shows decline [in the number of Catholic faithful attending church] across the diocese over the past few decades including an increasingly unsustainable drop in the number of priests. Hence, the status quo is no longer an option."
"In his commissioning letter to the members of the committee, Bishop Boyea encouraged the committee to be “bold and innovative in exploring ideas for renewal and growth” and urged them to “envision a diocese with parishes that are fully alive communities of missionary disciples, with a vibrant sacramental life, where everyone can encounter Jesus Christ, most especially in the Eucharist.”
Toward the end of 2021, the committee presented their key findings and recommendations, which can be found in the video and Findings & Recommendations document below.
